Orienteering
The JHHS Orienteering Team competes annually against the Bloomfield High School JROTC Orienteering Team. The Training team consists of no more than 4 Cadet Trainees and 2 Cadet Trainers (The Team OIC and NCOIC). The team meets weekly to study map reading, geography, and orienteering. Cadet team members are allowed to miss 3 practices without penalty. Competeing team members will be decided based on a merit and demerit system within the team. Merits will be given upon the following conditions:
- Arriving On time to Practice = 1 merit
- Completing 1 full practice day= 1 merit
- Passing ,in practice, tests and challenges= 1 meriit
- Awarded by OIC for stellar performance= TBD
The use of demerits ensures that the team has a system of punishment as well as praise demerits are given out for:
- Failing to arrive on time to practice (without advanced notice) = 1 demerit
- Failure to arrive to practice (after the third offense, or without advanced notice) = 1/2 demerit
- Failing to abide by JROTC and school policies while at practice/ Insubordination= 3 demerits
3 weeks prior to a competeion the orieteering team OIC and NCOIC will each create a team, consisting of themselves and 1 trainee. The OIC is directly in command of the primary team and the NCOIC is directly in command of the secondary team. Remaining trainees will be divided between the two teams as alternates. Participation in the competetion is directly related to merits. Cadets with more merits take precedence over cadets with fewer merits. Cadets with negative merits 3 weeks prior to the competition will not be allowed to participate in the practices or competition from that point forward, and will not be admitted to the team the following year.
Current OIC - Cadet Captain Daniel Byron
Current NCOIC- Cadet Staff Sergeant Felix Stearns
